Week of 5/23/16

Ahoy!

Wow what a busy time of year. We have been working feverishly in here to learn the last bits of third grade goodness! Sorry for the late posts!

Reading: This week in reading we are using an article about non-natives wearing headdresses. It has sparked quite a bit of conversation. Students worked on finding the main idea of the informational piece today.

Writing: Students should be finished with the legends! We are now starting to practice performing our anthology pieces.

Math: Students will be taking the unit assessment tomorrow and friday. It touches on shapes, area and perimeter. I have had quite a few students who have already finished all of their multiplication facts! Keep working at it! I would love for everyone to pass!

Spelling: There will be no more spelling tests for the year.

Social Studies: We are working on researching the different native american regions. Students are creating a research report that will be on display at Lacamas Showcase.

Science: We are learning about different structures of life. We have been working on plants. This week we took our seed that had sprouted and put them in a hydro-planter. This allows us to observe their root systems, as well as everything else above "ground."

IMPORTANT:

There is a lot of important things happening next week. The first is our SBAC math testing that will be on Tuesday and Friday. Please make sure you student is at school on those days. We will have make up days the following week, but I would prefer not to use them :)  The next thing is Lacamas Showcase. Our students will be presenting their piece that is in the anthology. They will also be performing a musical piece using "boomwhackers". This is on the 2nd of June at 5:30 p.m.

Mystery Question:
I have a yard that is 12 feet long and 10 feet wide rectangle. Please find the area for grass to be put down and find the perimeter for fencing.
